Dr. Albaliz (Alby) Tello is a multilingual and bicultural clinical social worker with 10+ years of experience in supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds. She is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in New Jersey and has experience working with the developmentally disabled, children and families, and in mental health.
Dr. Tello has been a school social worker on the Child Study Team in a middle school. She formerly served as the Director of Career Development and an adjunct professor at the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service. She has worked in both in-patient and outpatient mental health settings and has experience working with children and families via an in-home setting. Alby obtained her Bachelor of Arts from New York University and earned her Master of Social Work from Fordham University. She also possesses a doctorate in education (Ed.D) from Fordham University and expertise in addressing academic stressors, college preparation, and career/professional development. Dr. Tello has conducted research on social media in higher education.
Dr. Tello specializes in working with children, teens, and young adults. She utilizes mindfulness, solution-focused, trauma-informed, client-centered, and cognitive-behavioral therapeutic interventions to provide individual and family therapy. Dr. Tello has worked in both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings and has experience providing in-home services to children and families. Dr. Tello specializes in working with clients with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, OCD, trauma, and separation or divorce challenges. She maintains an affirming stance and has experience working with individuals who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Dr. Tello strongly believes in building a collaborative partnership, showing empathic understanding, and providing unconditional positive regard for her clients. She treats every client with respect and provides a safe space to process their feelings. She helps clients learn that therapy is an opportunity to explore our experiences with curiosity and kindness, allowing us to gain insight into, make meaning of, and heal from the burdens we carry.
To practice her own self-care, Dr. Tello enjoys all things outdoors with family, friends, and her dog. She enjoys yoga, hiking, art, and traveling the world. She strives to be a lifelong learner and is always seeking unique ways to improve the lives of others.
